Skellefteå’s new innovation house, The Great Northern (TGN), is targeting international success as it officially opens this week. The Great Northern’s ambitious mix of co-working space, incubators, event arenas, startups and established businesses is helping to cultivate Skellefteå’s tech scene – but the house already has aspirations to broaden its horizons and compete internationally.

9.30 – 10.00 Opening address
Skellefteå Science City welcomes everyone to the TGN Grand Opening and speaks briefly about TGN. Followed by a brief presentation about BizBuz and then an outline of the week’s program. Michael Stenmark will present Arctic Game Lab and Global Game Jam, which takes place at TGN on January 20-22.
10.00 – 10.40 Keynote: David Eriksson on Designing for the Experience Age
In the age of “experience”, design is no longer critical just from a functional perspective. Design also needs to have an emotional impact on the user that supports the overall design objective. In this session you will learn how North Kingdom uses empathic design in creating experiences, products and services for clients such as HBO, Ferrari, Google, Lego, Supercell and more.
11.00 Innovation (panel)
Discussion regarding the benefits and challenges of large, established companies sitting in co-working innovation houses. Skellefteå Science City’s Emina Kovacevic leads this panel which includes Christoffer Svanberg from Skellefteå Kraft, as well as Lisa Önnerlöv from Boliden and Michael Carlberg Lax from InfoVista (former Ascom).
Moderator Li Skarin will guide us through the afternoon.
Li Skarin is CEO of Massa Media, a production company working mainly for Swedish national TV and radio. Besides being an appreciated radio host she is a creative director, developing new ideas for traditional and new media.
Hello Future’s Leif Rehnström talks about the “Third Wave” of the internet and how it will affect the Skellefteå business ecosystem. Hello Future is a digital transformation agency that helps people and organizations reach their full digital potential through product design and business strategy.
14.30 Keynote: Marta Svetek on the future of work
The tech startup world has been questioning the traditional way of working for years. But ping-pong tables and remote working aside, what fundamental changes can we expect in the future? Will we even still have work to do or will robots take over everything? Marta from Freeformers takes an inspired, people-focused look at these questions and much more in her talk.

16.30 – 17.30 Keynote: Vincent Dignan on Growth Hacking
Joining us from the UK is the world’s most infamous ”growth hacker”, Vincent Dignan, winner of best speaker at SXSW V2V in Las Vegas and fresh from the launch of his successful book, ”Secret Sauce: A step-by-step guide to growth hacking”, and accompanying 100-date world tour. Expect fireworks!
